A neuropsychologist specializes in understanding how the brain affects thinking, emotions, and behavior. As an experienced practitioner, Dr. Bolshin supportrs those managing acquired brain injuries, mood disorders, cognitive difficulties, and trauma through evidence-based techniques:
A neuropsychologist is a specialized psychologist who studies the relationship between the brain and behavior. They focus on how brain function—including structural issues, injuries, and neurological conditions—affects cognitive abilities (like memory, attention, and executive function), emotions, and behavior. In other words, they have a specialized understanding of how the brain affects thinking, emotions, and behaviour together. A neuropsychologist can evaluate and pinpoint specific cognitive strengths and deficits caused by underlying brain structure or medical conditions, such as brain injuries or Alzheimer's disease.
A clinical psychologist focuses broadly on mental health, emotional well-being, and psychopathology such as depression, or anxiety disorders. They diagnose and treat a wide variety of behavioral, emotional, and psychological disorders, as well as treat, overcome, or manage emotional distress, mental health disorders, and relational challenges.
Dr. Bolshin is licensed with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario as both a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist. Therefore she has specialized expertise to evaluate cognitive dysfunction (for eaxmple, forgetfulness after a concussion), as well as work through the anxiety or depression stemming from the recovery process.
A neuropsychological assessment is an extensive psychometric test (often multi-hour standardized test batteries) to measure memory, processing speed, language, and problem-solving.
